This year was a busy one for the tech industry. However, with the successes came some definite fails. Check out our list below:

Amazon’s Not-so-hot Fire Phone

Back in June, Amazon introduced its new Fire Phone with extensive hype at its launch event. Unfortunately, the phone didn’t live up to expectations and Amazon now sells them for free with a 2-year contract.

Uber

Uber, the popular smartphone app which allows you to hail a cab with the push of a button, had a really bad year in regards to its public relations. Germany banned the service, the company sabotaged competition by ordering and canceling 6,000 rides and an Uber executive suggested digging up details on journalists to fight back against bad press.

Facebook’s Mandatory Messenger

Facebook experienced backlash during the summer after it made its messenger app mandatory for all users. Many Facebook users didn’t respond well to this, as they were paranoid that Facebook was trying to gain even more personal information. However, the Messenger app doesn’t ask for anything different than the regular Facebook app.

iPhone Bendgate

Apple announced its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus this past September, and the initial week of sales was off the charts. However, some customers noticed that they were able to bend iPhone 6 Plus and thus began Bendgate. A couple of YouTube videos went viral that showed people bending the phones, but Apple insists that the phones are sturdy and quite hard to bend.

Home Depot Hack

During the spring and summer of this year, hackers stole 56 million credit and debit cards along with 53 million email addresses from Home Depot. The company has since stated that its working to improve its payment data encryption technology.
